I have such few words when I pray these days, so I simply repeat the same words: Lord, be near. I ask for His presence to penetrate through hospital walls, isolated minds or tension-filled relationships, like the time Jesus showed up in the upper room to a group of frightened disciples. Many today are like those disciples—alone, unsure, and stuck. His nearness didn’t make sense to them, so Jesus invited them to touch and see His hands and feet, to give Him something to eat because He was real and not a ghost.

Luke 24:41 says, “[The disciples] still did not believe it because of joy and amazement,” and I wonder if they were like me these days. Squeezing the arms of the few friends I’ve seen in person, saying, “You’re real. You’re here. We’re here.”

It’s no wonder we long for nearness because God came near to us first. He walked in the Garden of Eden at the beginning of time and then sent His Son to be born as a baby. Being with each other is a taste of God Emmanuel. As we emerge into community and begin to worship and fellowship together, we are reminded that we are here, living not in fear, but in joy and amazement.

Next Generation Update

The Next Generation Town Hall Meeting this past Sunday was attended by approximately 100 people in person and many more via livestreaming. The PowerPoint presentation can be accessed on Timothy’s website, and there are a few printed copies at Information Centers at both campuses.  A summary of the Q&A portion of the meeting is being prepared and will be shared in Friday’s eNotes. Thank you to all for your participation and input!

A Special Voters’ Meeting is scheduled for Sun., June 13, 11:30am in the Wyatt Auditorium, for the sole purpose of voting on two motions from the Executive Board:

  • Approval of Phase 1 expansion and conceptual site plan
  • Approval to begin new Capital Campaign

Assuming COVID restrictions continue to ease, this meeting will occur as church business requiring a vote has always been conducted, with voting in person by a show of hands. A quorum of 40 communicant members is required to conduct business. Please plan to attend! Thank you!

We look forward to the “Transforming Lives through Christ” sermon series in June.  “Transforming” will be the focus on June 13, “Lives” on June 20, and “through Christ” on June 27.

Resuming Worship Procedures Means More Volunteers Needed

Maybe you noticed that Bibles and hymnals (and sharpened pencils!) were returned to the pew racks this past Sunday. As we move closer to June 6, the date publicized for resuming additional procedures, such as revised attendance cards in the pew racks at RD Mize and current attendance slips continued to be distributed to worshippers when they enter the Wyatt Auditorium, there are other procedures that need more volunteers.

  • If you can help with the donut and bagel ministry at either campus, please contact Bob Logan (, Joe Sauter (, and Viv Bradshaw ( for details.
  • Previous ushers and new volunteer ushers are needed. Contact Doug Hinkle ( for ushering at RD Mize and Chris Feldhaus (816.853.6896) for ushering at Wyatt.
  • If you are a family who would benefit from a staffed nursery at either campus, please contact Diane Mayfield (

LWML Mission Outreach

Many thanks to members for donating greeting cards for mission outreach. Some of the cards were used to make crosses for the work of Carol Halter, one of missionaries supported by Timothy, in Hong Kong. Many LWML ladies have cut out many crosses from these cards. Kay Lieb, Gloria Schulz, Kathy Hollembeak, and Carol Ready (pictured below) met last Saturday to affix labels containing the John 3:16 Bible verse in Chinese to the back of over 400 crosses for Carol to use in her ministry.

When Kay emailed Carol to watch for their delivery within the next couple weeks, Carol’s enthusiasm and gratitude overflowed with the following reply: “I just put this picture on my PowerPoint that I will be using when I teach a group of 17 Sunday School teachers next Sunday. I will show them who is making these crosses as these students are some of the recipients of them. They will be thrilled to see who is making them RIGHT NOW. Thank you again and again. I can hardly wait to show this picture to my students. They are very receptive and earnest and listen attentively—most of them in their 30’s to 50’s. I am so grateful to you also for sending this picture. With much appreciation, Carol”

As a side note, there are many more crosses that have been cut. If anyone knows of any other project or event that could include a cross with scripture affixed on reverse side, please contact Susan Ready ( or Donna Williams (
