What’s My Intention?  A Devotion

Recently, I became exhausted by the noise of Facebook, and I took a break from social media. Prior to my pause, I loved peeking through posts and images to get updates on my friends’ lives. But lately, social media has been overrun with miscommunication, fear, and disrespect. I’ve learned that the sound I put forth into the world speaks volumes about my Source and my intention.

In the story of the widow’s offering (Luke 21:1-4), Jesus turns His disciples’ attention to the people in the courtyard who are giving an offering. The rich would lift their loads of shekels up high so that their offering could be heard through the courtyard. When the poor widow enters the courtyard and puts in two, small copper coins, Jesus points her out to His disciples. He hears her coins clink, clink and Jesus sees and hears her heart. Her clink, clink wins His attention and admiration, and the sound of her worshipful offering—the motivation behind it– becomes the standard by which we should make noise.

Just as Jesus pointed out in the courtyard, the loudest, most boisterous acclamations in God’s name are not necessarily God-centered or Spirit-inspired.

Sarah Barber Accepts Call

This past Sunday, a letter from TLS teacher Sarah Barber was shared with the congregation concerning her divine call as a teacher at Belvoir Christian Academy at First Lutheran Church in Chattanooga, TN.  After prayerful deliberation and discussions with trusted family and friends, Sarah will accept this divine call. Timothy thanks Sarah for her years of service at Timothy and wishes her God’s blessings at her new position.

Congregational Town Hall
Sunday, May 23, 2021

The congregation is urged to attend a Town Hall meeting this Sunday, May 23, in the Wyatt Auditorium, immediately after the 10am worship service, to hear updated plans for ministry expansion. Your input is very important. The meeting will also be livestreamed.

Resuming Pre-Pandemic Worship Procedures

Current worship procedures will continue through the end of May. Beginning Sunday, June 6, worshippers will observe the following:

  • Bibles and pencils will be place in the pew racks/chair pockets.
  • Tape on pews in side sections at RD Mize will be removed; chairs will continue to be spaced for more room at Wyatt.
  • Ushers will distribute attendance slips, one per family, as worshipers enter worship centers.
  • Collection plates will be distributed at pews/rows during the service for gathering attendance slips and offerings.
  • Traditional communion procedures will return at RD Mize; worshippers preferring common cup may indicate such to the elder. The current processional communion procedure at Wyatt will continue.
  • Drive-Thru Communion will be discontinued; worshippers may request private communion during the week if they prefer.
  • Donuts/bagels and coffee/tea/water will resume, as organized by the GATHER Commission.
  • FaithRoots videos will play during the offering. After VBS Week and into the fall (August), FaithRoots classes will resume.
  • Additional services:  The goal is to implement this fall. Additional volunteers, especially sound techs and musicians, continue as a determining factor. For now and probably into the summer months, worshippers still fit comfortably into two serves.

Discovery Class  —  God Connects

A Course in Christianity from a Lutheran Perspective

At some point, everyone asks this question: “God, if You are there, why don’t You show Yourself to me?”  It can come at moments of sterile, academic reflection or in times of deep despair. In this confusing world where authenticity is so elusive, it seems like we cannot connect to God.

In truth, we can’t—but the good news is that God connects with us. Timothy’s adult instruction class tells this unique, unequaled story. Wherever you may find yourself, we will help you explore what the Bible says about our remarkably loving God, and how this love gives direction and meaning to our lives today and forever.

This class is designed for those interested in learning or reviewing the foundations of the Christian faith and/or joining Timothy Lutheran Church. Attendance at the class may lead to membership in our church, but there are no obligations. We welcome anyone 15 and older.

This twelve-week session begins on Wed., June 9, and will meet weekly from 6:30-8pm in the Fireplace Room (302) at RD Mize. Please register your attendance at so we can prepare materials for you.  You may contact Pastor Rod Lindemann ( with any questions.
