Do That Thing You’re Not Good At:
A Devotion

I high school, I remember rushing into the kitchen to share the great news with my family. “Guess what? I made it! I got a spot in the musical!” My young teenage heart was pumping with pride and excitement.

My brothers looked at each other and then back at me. “Mrs. Burns thinks you can sing and dance?” They burst into laughter.

It makes me wonder, “What is lost when we hide our expressions of love, art, and creativity because they don’t measure up to the world’s standards? What unexpected blessings are we forfeiting because we’re afraid to offer our less-than-stellar efforts?”

Maybe you love painting, but your creations don’t compare to those that get thousands of likes on Facebook. So you think, “Why bother?” Maybe you feel drawn to dance, but you believe you’re too old or awkward and others would just laugh. Maybe there is a poet inside you, but somewhere in the past you were told words weren’t your forte.

When it comes to God, He doesn’t judge your offerings by the world’s talent criteria. He’ll never boo you off stage or unfollow you for not meeting some invisible standard. He looks at your heart. He receives your contribution as someone who delights in you.

The Bible is full of imagery, not only of people worshipping God through singing and dancing, but of God Himself singing over His people. For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs. Zeph. 3:17

Imagine it—you are so loved! Let that love bubble up and overflow today in whatever expression brings you joy. Don’t worry about what others will think of it. God is already cheering you on.

Lenten Season Update

Tomorrow, March 24, is the final Lenten Service (5:30pm) which concludes our journey through the Book of Job. To prepare for this service, here is your homework:  “Read Job 38:11 and answer these questions: 1) Why do you think God waited so long to answer Job? 2) Job and his friends were curved in on themselves. How do these verses broaden their horizon? How do they impact your perspective? And 3) How has God spoken to you in your storms?”

Don’t forget to stop by the Senior Adult Ministry display in the lobby tomorrow evening and/or Sunday, March 28, to support the Lenten Non-Dinner Free-Will Offering for the Adopt-a-Family project at Christmas. Thanks for your support of Timothy’s various ministries as they apply the free-will offerings to reaching into the community with the love of Jesus. After Easter, look for a summary of all generosity shown during the entire Lenten season for all of the free-will offerings.

Palm Sunday is this Sunday, March 28! We look forward to celebrating Jesus’ triumphant ride into Jerusalem by distributing palms to worshippers in preparation for Holy Week.

Reminder:  FaithRoots and Confirmation classes will not meet on Wed., Mar. 31.

Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services will occur at 4 & 5:30pm at RD Mize (5:30 will be livestreamed). Communion will be celebrated on Maundy Thursday. Drive-Thru Communion will be available at the RD Mize Worship Center entrance from 6:30-7pm after the second service on Maundy Thursday. Easter Sunday services will be at 9 & 11am at RD Mize and 10am at Wyatt.

Worshippers at the Maundy Thursday 5:30pm service will enjoy a youth hand bell choir performance as well as rejoice with the Early Communion Instruction Class and their families as they partake of Holy Communion with their families for the first time. Both Maundy Thursday services will be enhanced by skits performed by Timothy’s youth. The hand bell choir will also perform in both RD Mize Easter Sunday services. He Is Risen!

SHINE!  The Missouri District’s First Ever Statewide Servant Event!
April 16-25, 2021

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”  Matthew 5:16

Timothy will join brothers and sisters in Christ in the Missouri District in support of the Shine! statewide servant event by hosting a Cancer Prayer Service on Sunday, April 18, at 3pm in the Wyatt Auditorium, followed by fellowship and refreshments at 4pm provided by the GO Commission. Pastor Rod, Gary Williams, and Audra Pirch will lead the service. Stephen Ministers will be available to offer one-on-one prayer and participate in the anointing of oil for those who desire it. Please read the following thoughts from Pastor Rod:

“It’s time to be honest—I’ve traveled the cancer journey with several families who have faced the realities and impact cancer has on the life of the inflicted and the lives of family and friends. It is without a doubt one of the toughest roads we can travel. The word “cancer” brings with it heartbreaking news that creates anger, depression, and the list goes on. Cancer robs the very life out of us as we journey forward. On March 6, 2020, the full impact of cancer became very real with the passing of my mom.

In 2019, Timothy’s first Cancer Prayer Service was held to support cancer patients along with their family and friends. As part of the Missouri District-LCMS community servant event week, Timothy will host its fourth Cancer Prayer Service, in-person and livestreamed, to help those impacted by cancer through prayer and worship.

Together we can praise God in the Storm of Life through community in God’s family. As a part of our event, we will send out Cancer Prayer Packs to offer encouragement in God’s Word, prayer, and community. Please join us by inviting those you know to gather with us as we pray for one another. The event and Cancer Prayer Pack are available to anyone by request.”

Next Generation Update

Next GenerationOn March 11, reps from the Executive Board, Board of Elected Elders, Next Generation Committee, and Timothy’s pastors attended a meeting to discuss steps in moving forward.

The consensus was that a Master Plan is required to share with the congregation to illustrate the scope and vision of the new construction in facilitating consolidation to one site at Wyatt. The Master Plan will include building drawings and an architectural rendering to give us a picture of the proposed expansion at Wyatt and approximate cost.

To initiate this effort, three architectural firms have been identified and contacted to determine their interest and availability to submit proposals to prepare the Master Plan. The Next Generation Construction Task Force continues to meet to coordinate development of the necessary documents for obtaining proposals from the architectural firms. In addition, a timeline for delivery of the Master Plan is being developed. We will continue to update you as this process moves forward. Please keep Timothy’s Next Generation process in your prayers. Thank you!

Senior High Youth Update

Ten members of the Senior High Youth Group gathered Friday night to make pizzas, play games, and watch a movie! It was a relaxing end to a rainy week of Spring Break.

Children’s Ministry:  Dig in at Home
God Made Us and Knows Us (Ps. 139:1-4)

Here’s what happened at FaithRoots last week! David writes a song about how God knows everything about us. God knows when we sit or stand, what we think about, when we travel, when we’re home, and what we’re going to say. There’s nothing about us that’s hidden from God!
Bible Point: We are known by God. “And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole clock of sparrows.” Luke 12:7
