In-Person Worship
9 am – RD Mize | 10 am – Wyatt Campus
10 am Live Stream –

My mom showed us how to love others well. Growing up, she filled our kitchen with the smells of chicken casserole or homemade lasagna when we learned of someone in our church with a loss in the family. At the holidays, she taught us the joy of giving. Whenever I struggled with loneliness or sadness, she encouraged me to look around. I could take my eyes off of my own pain for just a little while and be a friend to others who needed love, too.

But then I became the “least of these” as a young, divorced single mom. As I navigated my new status as a single parent, one of my biggest struggles was realizing how much help I needed. I wanted to be the one pouring out and loving well, but in my emotional, physical, and financial exhaustion, I had nothing left. The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matt. 25:40
God met me there — empty, broken-hearted, and with nothing left to give. He showed up in the helpers when I suddenly found myself identifying as the one in need.

While it can sometimes be easier as Christ followers to pour ourselves out and show others love through our giving, there are also times when we need to learn to receive. In that humbling and hard season, God teaches us the humility of accepting the offerings of others. He used the people around us to be the hands and feet of Jesus. May we be humble enough to give without expectation and to receive help when we need it. There is a time and a season for both.

COVID Update

In light of increased protocols issued by Jackson County yesterday, please note the following precautions regarding Timothy’s worship services and activities:

  • Sanctuary pews are taped again to ensure better social distancing; however, there is more seating available than the first time pews were taped.
  • The Thanksgiving Eve Service and Advent Services will be live-streamed, using a cell phone to record the services, and available on Facebook and YouTube, in the same manner that the 9am service is recorded when a volunteer is available.
  • The individual leaders of Bible Studies will determine if they will meet in-person. Please let the office know if plans change.
  • Until further notice, Timothy will not be available to outside groups, with the exception of the Blue Springs City Theatre who operates under stringent internal protocols over and above Timothy’s protocols.
  • Masks are required if 6’ social distancing cannot be maintained at all times.

Please know that Timothy’s staff and leadership is monitoring COVID precautions and protocols as they become available. The county’s order is a good reminder that it is our responsibility to take necessary steps to keep everyone safe. Future updates will be communicated as necessary. Thank you for your cooperation.

Worship Updates

There has been congregational interest for Timothy to expand weekend service opportunities. At last week’s Board of Elected Elders meeting, the elders lamented that due to COVID and especially its recent increased concerns, there are not enough volunteers (elders, ushers, sound techs) to support another service at this time. The Elected Elders will continue to monitor local COVID cases and the availability of volunteers to determine when an additional service can be added.

In addition to livestreaming the 10am service at Wyatt Rd, the 9am service at RD Mize Rd is being recorded when a recording volunteer is available. The recorded services will be posted under the RD Mize Worship Timothy Youtube playlist.  Just click on the Rd Mize Worship blue text in previous sentence and it will take you to the playlist.  Click on the service you want to view.

Annual Voters’ Assembly Meeting

Please plan to attend the Annual Voters’ Assembly Meeting on Sunday, Dec. 6, at 11:30am in the Wyatt Auditorium. A quorum of 40 voting members is required to conduct business. Please note the following agenda items and suggestions for preparing for the meeting:

  • Adoption of Proposed 2021 Operating Budget: Printed copies are available at the Information Center at each campus. It is also posted on Timothy’s website. The Budget Worksheet includes three items new to the operating budget from past years, all three of which are designed to provide direction for Timothy’s ministries moving forward:
  1. $20,000 for development of architectural drawings (with completion goal of 1st quarter 2021) in developing conceptual drawings for expansion at Wyatt Campus;
  2. The Next Generation Task Forces have worked hard to gather information. Some task forces are still gathering information, but final reports from the 2020 Vision Review Task Force and Ministry Review Task Force will be completed soon. Before a congregational vote about possible next steps, leadership needs the help of professionals to create conceptual architectural drawings of site plans and approximate costs to present to the congregation. By allocating funds now to develop drawings, we will gain a more accurate picture of what is or is not possible for the future. The Dec. 6 adoption of the budget does not commit Timothy to any expansion projects at this time. Voters will decide that at the appropriate time. Leadership is committed to not incurring any additional debt, regardless of the final decision by Voters.
  3. Monthly principal payments ($5,000) to Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) to reduce debt;
  4. Monthly transfer ($5,000) to a “rainy day” emergency fund.
  • 2020 Annual Reports: Will be posted to church website by Nov. 30. Please review before Voters’ Assembly Meeting and bring questions, if any, to the meeting. There will be no printed copies at the meeting.
  • Approval of Called Staff Housing Allowance:  Will be printed on the agenda.
  • 2021 Proposed Slate of Lay Leaders:  Will be printed on reverse side of agenda.
  • Approval of Bylaws Revisions:  Current bylaws, last approved in 2015, are posted on church website. Proposed 2020 revision of Timothy’s bylaws will be posted on church website by Friday, Nov. 20. Please review both documents and bring questions, if any, to the meeting. There will be no printed copies at the meeting.

Please contact Diane Mayfield ( or 816.228.5300 Ext. 8040) with questions.
