The Small Things:  A Devotion

I have been praying for my friends, and sometimes it seems that all I notice are the hard things, the sad things, the struggles, the illness, the disappointments.

It really is hard not to focus on the struggle. It’s hard not to let our attention stay on the problems and issues and worries. And it’s especially hard when we’re in the middle of the struggle and it’s all we can see around us, but don’t let the struggle steal your joy. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that it’s okay to just let it go for a moment. Yes, it’s still important, and we can’t just ignore it, but we can set it aside and take a break from it. Turn our attention elsewhere. Enjoy every bit of something else—the sun on our skin, the smell of fresh air, the sound of birds, the feel of book pages, the taste of our tea or coffee. Find joy in the small things because God meets us there.

This is the day which the Lord has made; let’s rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

Set aside the hard and have a moment of joy. God will help you handle what is ahead, but take the time to enjoy an incredible, soul-lifting moment with Him. God has made this day! Live full of His joys!

3rd Annual Live Well Community Fair

What a blessed event! Great weather; opportunities to gather wellness & ministry resources; Timmy burgers; greetings from Star Wars characters, Slugggerrr, & KC Wolf; and outdoor fun! Look for a complete wrap-up of the fair in Friday’s eNotes!

Installation of Pastor Ryan Hochgrebe

Timothy celebrated the installation of Pastor Ryan Hochgrebe this past Sunday. Rev. William Marler, MO District LCMS 1st Vice-President, shared the message, and area Lutheran pastors offered messages of welcome and blessings upon Pastor Ryan’s ministry at Timothy. Pictured below L-R are Rev. Cliff Koenig, Rev. Brad Zerkel, Rev. Rod Lindemann, Rev. John Otte, Rev. Ryan Hochgrebe, Rev. William Marler, Rev. Gary Stolle (Timothy’s Circuit Visitor), Rev. Scott Lemmerman, Rev. Mark Wenger, and Rev. Brian Hetzel.

Many thanks to Janet Masters, Mary Jane Fudge, Linda Gorski, and Gather Commission members Charlie Johnson, Joe & Sandy Sauter, Val Leakey, Bob Logan, and Kyle Oelkhaus for organizing and hosting the reception following the installation service and to Don McGhee and Gary Williams for setting up and taking down tables.

A Message from the Hochgrebe Family

“To our brothers and sisters here at Timothy,
The Hochgrebe family simply wanted to say thank you! It has been crazy over the past few months transitioning to Missouri and all that comes with a big move. However, we have seen the Lord faithfully walk with us and bless us along the journey. Many of those blessings have flowed from the hearts, hands, voices, and kindness from the members of Timothy.

My installation day was certainly emotional and special and what great joy to hear how excited so many of you are that we are here. Thank you for supporting us and loving us before we even knew your names. The outpouring of gifts and greetings has been special. May the Lord now lead us forth together learning, loving, and living in the salvation of Jesus. And we will together “Transform Lives through Christ.”

Peace,
Pastor Ryan”

Liebs Retiring As PALS Facilitators

The MO District PALS (Post-Seminary Applied Learning and Support) ministry has been served well by Pastor Fran and Kay Lieb for the past 14 years. This past Thursday was the final session of their final year in this ministry, and the District will soon learn, if they don’t know already, that filling the Liebs’ shoes will be no small task!

The program, initiated by the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, encourages and supports new pastors, specifically designed for those in the first three years of ministry. Meeting together in regions across the country (such as Western Missouri), the facilitators plan the all-day meetings (usually six per year) and host the event to include Bible study, worship, sharing ministry joys and concerns, and continuing education with materials provided by the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod office.

As support for the entire family, wives and children are encouraged to attend when possible. After opening worship, Kay provided support to the pastors’ wives separately in discussions of various topics, concerns, and situations. Over the years, several Timothy volunteers provided wonderful support by caring for and entertaining the children while their parents met with Fran and Kay.

Since Fran and Kay are “retiring” from this support ministry, District President Dr. Lee Hagan will appoint new leadership. Last Thursday, the pastors presented gifts of a potted plant and a HUGE shepherd’s staff to the Liebs in appreciation for their 14 years of service in the PALS program. Pictured Left to Right are Jerod & Jennifer Koenig, Ozark; Daniel Clemons, Kansas City; Kay Lieb; Jerry Smith, Appleton City; Fran Lieb; Carl Wendorff, Warsaw; Jesse Schlie, Jefferson City; Andrew Lehenbauer, Concordia; and Joseph McCalley, Columbia.

Thank you, Fran and Kay, for your dedicated commitment to mentoring and supporting new pastors and their families!

As a side note, Pastor Ryan performed an impromptu magic show as end-of-the-day entertainment for the PALS children. Thank you, Pastor Ryan, for providing a new twist to their fun day!

RD Mize Playground Work Day

Last Friday, the RD Mize playground underwent the next step of its “makeover.” Volunteers soon learned just how many feet of mulch had been spread on that playground over the years as the heavy equipment operators thought they may be in quicksand!

Thanks to Dave Madden, Doug Spilker, Joe Sauter, Louie Wilbers, Don McGhee, Ben Ryan, Bob Logan, Gordon Thompson, and Chris Hruska for scooping, shoveling, raking, and hauling away the top layers in preparation for the next work day on Sat., June 26, to spread new dirt.  Please contact Louie Wilbers (louis.wilbers@att.net) if you can help that Saturday morning.

Timothy’s Girls on the Run Completes Inaugural Session

Timothy’s first experience as a GOTR “host” was very successful! Last Saturday, the culminating 5K was held in conjunction with the Live Well Community Fair but on the familiar St. Mary’s Medical Center trail. Over 50 participants, both runners and their supporters, enjoyed the run/walk in their commitment to physical exercise and wellness.  The girls were invited to attend the upcoming Skate Party on June 30, just as many attended the previous one on May 26.

The Girls on the Run organization is eager for Timothy to host another session this fall, so look for details soon about signing up! Girls in grades 3-8 are encouraged to participate. Many thanks to Timothy’s coaches for volunteering to help the girls reach their goals:  Sarah Hinkle, Sandy Gregory, Ruth Sunderman, Erin Beerman, Julie Stock, Shay Champion, Emily Poynter, and Janelle Kephardt.

Ordination Service for Jake Bellinghausen

Timothy’s own Jake Bellinghausen will be ordained as a Lutheran pastor in a special service on Sun., June 27, at 6pm at RD Mize. Pastor Lieb is honored to share the message at the service, and Pastor John is honored to share the message at Jake’s installation service at Grace Lutheran Church in Vestal, NY, on July 11. Plan to stop by the Fellowship Hall for a reception after the 6pm service to offer God’s blessings to Jake and his family. Please CLICK HERE if you plan to attend. Thank you!
