As We Gather For Worship This Weekend

THEME: “Peter’s Path: A Call to Adventure”

As a new year dawns, God once again calls His people out on a new adventure. We don’t know what the new year is going to hold for us, but by remembering how Jesus once blessed Peter’s catch of fish, we remember that so long as God is the one calling us forward, we have nothing to fear. He will bless us in our new ventures as we strive to follow Him.

2021 GodConnect Devotionals

As we prepare to enter 2021, it’s that time of year we make our resolutions—promises to ourselves. I will once again offer a daily devotional (Mon-Fri) following my regular reading of God’s Word. Together, we can take time each day to build our relationship with God, strengthen our faith, and work to live our lives for Him.

We all need to take time to connect with God and His Word. Sign up today at the link below if you would like to take a journey through the Bible with me. Click on the web link and select GodConnect Devotions. SIGN UP:

Youth Looking Ahead

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. 1 Tim. 4:12

In addition to spiritual growth and fellowship, Timothy youth are dedicated to serving the community and beyond. The next monthly service event is TONIGHT (Dec. 29) from 5-7:30pm in the Youth Room (506) at RD Mize. All 6th-12th graders are invited! After planning Youth Sunday, they will enjoy pizza ($5/student) and then finish the event by tying blankets for the homeless in downtown KC, which will be delivered this cold week. Adults wishing to get involved should contact Deanna Cross (816.807.6778) or Julie Storck (816.213.5631) to help prepping the blanket material at 5pm.

Then, moving into January, all youth return to Wednesday evening classes at RD Mize: FaithRoots (Pre-K-5th), Confirmation (6th-8th), and Senior High “Revolution” (6-8pm in Youth Room for fellowship and relevant Bible studies appropriate for all faith levels). If unsure how to get connected, contact Ryan Kuecker ( or 816.868.1409) for all the latest in scheduling and study topics.

Parents, is your teen unsure about joining an existing group? This is normal, so Timothy’s youth have planned “new” events that your teen can plug into without being the “new” kid. A New Year’s-themed Youth Bible Study begins on Sun., Jan. 10, at 5pm in Youth Room (506), followed by an hour of dodgeball in the Family Life Center. This is open to all 6th-12th graders (divided into classes), and they can participate in all or just some of the events to meet new people and see what Timothy’s youth group is all about. Contact Sarah Hinkle ( or 816.392.2084) to RSVP.

Finally, friends are always welcome and encouraged to attend, especially as this particularly difficult year draws to a close. The Youth Leadership Team has planned new events for January, so check back often or hop over to Timothy’s Student Page on the church website ( for all the latest news. You can also see schedules posted on the Youth Calendar Boards in the lobby of both campuses. If your student is looking for some extra fun and faith in his/her life, we encourage you all to join any of the upcoming events. If you have questions, contact any of the youth leaders (adults and students) to help your student jump into a new chapter in 2021!

Another Powerful Confirmand Faith Story

God’s blessings to Isaiah Otte, one of Timothy’s 2021 Confirmands, who shared his faith story, based on applying his chosen Bible verse (Romans 12:2) with the congregation this past Sunday. Video below.

Appreciating Timothy’s Tithes

An update from Steve Cohen at The Apple of His Eye Mission Society in Brentwood, TN, dated Dec. 14th:
Shalom, Timothy Lutheran Church!

While the news of the world seems dark and confusing, the God News of Y’shua the Messiah abounds, and because of you, your prayers, and your sustaining mission support, we are able to go and grow with the Gospel.

Bob Roegner has cultivated personal relationships with three unsaved Jewish people in the Tel Aviv areas and is sharing the Message of salvation with them. They have also welcomed our very first Apple of His Eye mission volunteers into Israel in the last couple of days. Please watch for our newsletter to give you photos and stories of how the Lord is using them over the next few months, even during this COVID era.

Yours in Y’shua—Isaiah 9:6-8

An update from Kathy Edwards at Rachel House, headquartered in Lee’s Summit, dated Dec. 12th:

Dear Timothy,

Thank you for thinking of the men, women, and babies we serve at Rachel House in your holiday giving! You may not know this, but nearly 80% of the individuals who come through our doors live below the federal poverty level. Your partnership allows us to give them material, physical and emotional support at Christmas and throughout the entire year. Most importantly, we get to introduce them to the Lord Jesus. He is the reason for the season and all that we do.

Even with the complications we have faced in 2020, your generosity has encouraged us to persevere in the mission the Lord has set before us. You can feel confident that your donation is being used to accomplish His purpose during this time. By year’s end, over 2,850 men and women will have received life-saving help because Rachel House was here for them. We are here because of partners like you.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13

Next Generation Update

The Strategic Planning Committee continues to form, so please contact Dave Domsch ( as soon as possible if you wish to join this committee. The first meeting will be Monday or Tuesday evening next week (Jan. 4 or 5). One of the first agenda items will include incorporating the final reports of the Vision Review and Ministry Review Task Forces to discuss what moving forward with specific goals over the next 3-5 years may look like within Timothy’s mission of Touching Lives for Christ.

The following Next Generation questions were submitted recently from a parishioner:

1. How much property needs to be sold for TLC to be solvent again?
Answer:  Timothy is not insolvent. Insolvency occurs when liabilities exceed assets. In round numbers, Timothy’s liability is about $6.4M, and assets are $11.4M. This information is shown on the balance sheet which is available on Timothy’s website.

2. What would be necessary to subdivide the Wyatt acreage for a partial sell-off there?
Answer:  The Wyatt Campus is zoned GB (general business) and SO (service office). The approximate 6.6 acreage of Highway 7 frontal property at Wyatt continues to be for sale with no activity for the past several years. Approximately 23 acres on the east end of the property were sold a few years ago and re-zoned for recent residential development in the area. (As a point of information, the 5.06 acreage of the RD Mize Campus is zoned SF-7 (single family residential.) Re-zoning of either property would be necessary if either sold for a different purpose than currently zoned. Selling any part of either property requires Voters’ Assembly approval.

3. What is the agenda for the newest committee being formed about vision?
Answer:  Partial Answer above.

2020 First Fruits As of Dec. 20th, First Fruits total $212,599.26. Praise God! 2021 First Fruits sermon series, Peter’s Path, begins this Sunday for three weeks. Thank you for prayerfully considering how you can participate in 2021 First Fruits giving.
