As We Gather For Worship This Weekend

“The Feast”We like to picture heaven as a big party, and that’s straight from the Bible! In the Old Testament lesson, we hear what that party is going to be like: a never-ending celebration for God’s people where His praises ascend forevermore. But it’s important for us to remember who this feast is for: not just a few, but for everyone.
Join the gang as they discover that God’s desire for us is to be thankful and not jealous. This weekend the students will journey through the Bible Event of Jacob and his brothers.

A Devotion to Share

As long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night. Gen. 8:22

The sticky, hot days of summer stretch into October, and early morning air gives way to a chill. And that’s when the trees know winter is coming. They prepare for it from the inside out. How do the leaves know when to drop their guard of green and give into the process of dying to themselves? What we think of as death—the leaves giving in to the coming cold and dying—is actually them revealing their truest selves.

Maybe in the middle of our own everyday struggles, God is preparing us for something. Maybe He wants us to choose to take hold, to dig deeper into His Word, to become the best version of ourselves, to reflect with unquestionable certainty the glory hidden in our hearts where God first chose to take up residence. Let’s yield to living color, the kind that shines brightest when dying to self has happened first.
(Otis, maybe a pretty fall scene could go with this devotion.)

Worship Update

Beginning this Sunday, Oct. 11, worship at RD Mize (9am) will include removing the blue tape from most of the pews. However, the middle pew on both sides of the family section at the rear of the sanctuary will continue to be unavailable. Worshippers are reminded that wearing masks is still required, and social distancing should be followed as much as possible. Therefore, when choosing a pew, please avoid sitting directly in front of people and please move to the center of pews whenever possible to accommodate more space for worshippers. Thank you for your cooperation.

Drive-Thru Communion (11:30am-12:15pm) will be available again next Sunday, Oct. 18, at Wyatt. Stay tuned for updates concerning November and beyond as well as details pertaining to Advent and Christmas worship services.

Lutheran High Handbell Choir
to Perform at Timothy

Timothy welcomes the Resounding Joy handbell choir from Lutheran High School—Kansas City, directed by Paula Meier, as they perform this Sunday, Oct. 11, as part of the 10am worship service at Wyatt. Worshippers will have the opportunity to donate a free-will offering to the handbell choir as they leave the service. Just look for the smiling faces of teens holding baskets at the auditorium entrance!

At Lutheran High, Resounding Joy is a music elective class for upperclassmen. Worshippers will hear approximately 60 years of combined ringing experience! This handbell choir plans to travel to Texas in March for its Music Tour, and offerings will defray costs for that trip. This year’s Resounding Joy choir includes Timothy Lutheran School graduates, Ian Gannan and Aden Becker.

FaithRoots Has Launched!

And, parents, while you’re at it, please sign up yourself as a volunteer in this amazing program!

Hillcrest Appreciates Timothy’s Tithe
and Gala Support

Below is an excerpt from a letter Timothy received this week from the Vice President of Development at Hillcrest Transitional Housing, Cotton Sivils.

Thank you, Timothy, for your support of Hillcrest Transitional Housing’s 20th Annual Gala, The Virtual Experience, on October 1. For more than 40 years, Hillcrest has helped families get back on their feet. Your gift ($2,500) enables us to provide homeless individuals, families, and youth with the skills and tools they need to lead sell-sufficient lives and to leave behind the cycle of homelessness forever.

Middle School Youth Ministry

October is a time for falling leave and a chill in the air, but would you believe Timothy’s youth have been thinking about this season since summer when they started expressing concern for those who have no place to call home. What exactly happens to the homeless when temperatures drop? What can we do to help? Their immediate answer:  PRAY! Then, almost as immediately:  let’s collect fleece to make extra warm blankets!

So the students began slowly watching the ads to gather 2-yard pieces of fleece for blanket-making in October. Thanks to the overwhelming response by Timothy members to also donate fleece, the youth are on track to make at least 10 blankets on October 18 during their monthly workday. They will continue to collect fleece at both campuses through next Sunday, Oct. 18. If you have questions or would like to assist in preparation for the workday, please contact Deanna Cross (816.807.6778). Thans for your support!

All work and no play are no fun, so all 6th-12th grade youth are invited to the Timothy Youth Falloween, a fall party, on Friday, Oct. 23, from 4-7pm. You will enjoy a pumpkin-carving contest, food, and an epic nerf fight. Check out the Timothy Student Ministry Page on the church website for details.

LWML Ingathering for LUMAA

Timothy’s LWML is collecting winter necessities for the Lutheran Urban Agency Auxiliary (LUMAA). Items especially appreciated include coats, caps, scarves, gloves/mittens, long underwear, sweaters, sweatshirts, blankets/quilts (full and queen), and warm socks (both adult & children—new or gently used). These items will be donated to the Lutheran Food Pantries for distribution in the KC Metro area. Collection bins will be in lobby at both campuses through Nov. 15. Monetary donations (checks payable to LUMAA) are also appreciated and may be dropped off at the church office or mailed to Lois Domsch, 3349 S. Scott Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Thank you for your support!

October Food Donations

Thank you, Timothy, for your continuing support of food drives to assist food pantries at BS Community Services League, Hillcrest Transitional Housing, and Jesu el Buen in downtown KC.

The October ingathering placed in the grocery carts at both campuses will be delivered to Jesu el Buen. Pastor Frank Eberhart reports that Timothy’s donations are always very much appreciated. The following items are in highest demand at the present time:  sugar, flour, cooking oil, cereal, spaghetti sauce, canned beans (black, pinto, navy), toilet paper, and laundry detergentPlease note that they are well-stocked with pasta, mac & cheese, rice, dry beans from Harvesters as well as canned tuna and canned chicken.  Thank you very much!
