As We Gather For Worship This Weekend

THEME: “An Idol Feast”

CREATIVE TENSION: While we may have never encountered food that’s been sacrificed to an idol, it was obviously a big deal in the city of Corinth. Paul dedicates three chapters of 1 Corinthians to the subject, after all. But at the heart of this seemingly obscure matter is a larger principle: how do we interact with our brothers and sisters who see things differently than us. The issue of idol feasts reminds us of a greater principle: we always watch out for each other rather than rest on our own understanding.

Join the gang this week as they discover that God wants to hear from us even in the little things. Bible Event: Joshua and the Promised Land

Ash Wednesday:  Imposition of Ashes

The Ash Wednesday services on Feb. 17 (4 & 5:30-pm) at RD Mize will include Imposition of Ashes. The pastors will use Q-tips (one per person). They will not speak the words since there will be more direct face-to-face interaction as the ashes are spread on forehead or wrist. However, the words will be on the large screen. Worshippers will approach the chancel area to receive the ashes from the center aisle and return to their seats up the side aisles. Upon returning to their seats, worshippers may read the screen and meditate and pray to special music.

Timothy’s Stephen Ministry Opportunity

Stephen Ministry training equips you to show God’s mercy, care and compassion to another who is hurting. Stephen Ministers listen, explore feelings, pray, and share God’s love while maintaining confidentiality in their care-giving relationships, leaving the results to God.

Do you want to learn how to become a Stephen Minister and plant the seed of hope in people’s lives? Timothy’s next class begins Tuesday, Feb. 23, meeting weekly through May 18. Please apply by Feb. 16 with Care Minister Nancy Nowiszewski, nancyn@timothylutheran.com or 816.228.5300 Ext. 8042.

Youth Ministry Thanks Timothy

Timothy’s youth and youth leaders extend a huge thank-you to all who helped during Youth Sunday last week. The extra time that ministry staff and other leaders shared in including the students with various aspects of the worship services is very much appreciated.

To all of the generous donors, THANK YOU for your contributions of drinks, snacks, and nearly $500 in free-will donations. All of these donations will go a long way to make the Youth Quake (rescheduled for June 26) a special experience. Students will come to Timothy to plug in virtually to a national Christian event. Thank you for supporting and keeping the youth in your prayers.

Bible Study:  “From Invisible to Indispensable”

Abortion and physician-assisted suicide pull quite a sleight-of-hand trick. With the smoke of ‘quality of life’ and the mirrors of ‘personal choice,’ they pretend to relieve pain and resolve problems. But beneath these illusions, they really just remove persons. And they persuade by-standers to ‘pay no attention to that life murdered behind the curtain.’ These practices not only just take away the lives of their victims but also steal humanity and sanctity from us all.

In this one-hour class, participants will study I Corinthians 12:12-26 where the Apostle Paul diagnoses a vision deficiency that actually continues to affect us today. He reveals some pretty serious consequences and identifies a different and better superpower—invisible but invaluable—and available to everyone. The study, led by Care Minister Nancy Nowiszewski, will be held in the Fellowship Hall, RD Mize Campus, at 10:15am on February 14, 2021.
