As We Gather For Worship This Weekend

THEME:  “Why Do We Do What We Do?”

What’s your motivation? What is it that motivates you to do what you do? God has given us a great task in going out and sharing the Good News. He commissions us the same way that He did Isaiah the prophet in the Old Testament reading. So why do we do what we do? Let’s break down what our motivation is for doing what we do as individual Christians and as the Church.

Timothy Lutheran FaithRoots | Bible Event

Live Well Community Fair

We are literally days away from our 3rd Annual Live Well Community Fair on Sat., June 5, 10am-2pm, at Wyatt Campus! The GIVE Commission is proud to organize this church-wide, outreach event that promotes opportunities for physical, mental, and spiritual wellness. Thank you to all of the commissions, staff, and other volunteers for your help!

This year, in addition to all the indoor fun, you can explore outdoor activities—a fire engine, ambulance, patrol car, plus inflatable challenge courses for both youth and adults to test their athletic skills! Remember to bring a kite to fly with the help of our senior high youth. Take time to greet KC Royals Sluggerrr, KC Wolf from KC Chiefs, Jessy the Comfort Dog, and Storm Troopers (Members of the 501st & Rebel Legion Star Wars Costume Group) and—DRUM ROLL—Timothy’s Festival Committee will be on hand to sell (digital payments only) the always-popular Timmy Burgers to take home and enjoy after visiting the vendors in the auditorium!

Visitors are encouraged to give back to the community by bringing food items for the Community Services League, cleaning supplies for Hillcrest Transitional Housing, and dog/cat food for the KC Pet Project. Thanks for supporting these efforts!

You do not want to miss this chance to attend a “fair” after enduring the isolation of COVID-19! Check out the Timothy website for a complete list of events and organizations ( Invite your neighbors and friends to attend with you! See you next Saturday!

More Worship Procedures
Resuming Next Sunday

As a reminder, beginning next Sunday, June 6, more pre-pandemic worship procedures will resume.

  • At both campuses, ushers will give worshippers a new “handout” that identifies “Today at Timothy” worship elements on one side and “This Week at Timothy” activities/events on opposite side.
  • At RD Mize, tape will be removed from side sections; at Wyatt, chairs will remain spaced as currently set up.
  • At RD Mize, worshippers will find attendance cards in pew racks; at Wyatt, ushers will give worshippers attendance slip, one per family, as they enter auditorium.
  • Plates to collect attendance slips/cards and offerings will be distributed during service.
  • At RD Mize, traditional communion procedures will return; at Wyatt, the current processional communion procedure will continue. Worshippers preferring common cup may indicate such to the elder. Drive-Thru Communion will no longer be available.
  • Donuts/bagels and coffee/tea/water will resume in Family Life Center at RD Mize and 4 G’s area at Wyatt.
  • FaithRoots video will play during the offering. FaithRoots classes will resume in Aug.

Thanks for your patience during the pandemic! We look forward to resuming more worship procedures as more volunteers come on board. Please contact the church office if you can provide assistance in any way to enhance worship and fellowship.

Next Generation Update

Timothy’s leadership thanks the congregation for participating in the Town Hall Meeting this past Sunday. Congregational Secretary Charlie Johnson captured the Q & A portion of the meeting very well, as listed below.  Thank you, Charlie!

  1. Where is Timothy’s standing for calling a Senior Pastor?  Answer:  The search for a Senior Pastor is on hold for now. Timothy expanded staff by adding Pastor Ryan as Children & Youth Minister to lead continued growth in that identified mission focus. The Board of Elected Elders is always looking at the Senior Pastor position and the best time to extend a divine call.
  2. Regarding the Phase 3 Worship Center and/or smaller chapel, will it be used for special services?  Answer:  Yes, an example would be blended worship services as occur in the sanctuary now.
  3. Regarding the original 2020 Vision created in 2008, how closely do those plans resemble what was built?  Answer:  The current Wyatt building does not resemble the drawings shown on the original master plan. Because of unforeseen financial issues during construction of that building, classrooms decreased in size from 900 sq. ft. to 300 sq. ft. which significantly impacted the number of students per classroom and also significantly impacts enrollment and teacher salaries today.
  4. Were architectural drawings used in today’s presentation?  Answer:  No, the drawings in today’s presentation were created by Timothy’s leadership team.
  5. Will the Worship Center in Phase 3 resemble the gym at Wyatt, or will a separate building be built like at RD Mize?  Answer:  The current goal is for the Worship Center to hold 350 worshippers on chairs rather than pews. The chairs will ensure flexibility in its use as multipurpose space for various functions.  It will not resemble a gym with basketball goals and school banners. It will be a dedicated space for worship.
  6. Are the Phase 1 building costs an estimate or firm costs?  Answer:  The costs are a rough estimate based on square footage. The architect will provide Level 2 cost estimates which are plus or minus 10%. Although cost of building materials has increased recently, it is hoped that costs will reduce post-COVID.
  7. Will we pay the architect to complete plans for Phase 1 only, or include Phases 2 and 3?  Answer:  The architect will be tasked to complete a master plan based on our conveyed needs and will design Phase 1 only. Phases 2 and 3 are not an emphasis at this time because when we are ready for them in the future, Timothy’s needs and situation may have changed.
  8. What is our current debt?  Answer: Approximately $6.5 million, and decreasing more in 2021 with additional monthly principal payments of $5,000.
  9. What about the rumors that a developer approached Timothy about purchasing 19 acres at Wyatt?  Answer:  The Executive Board reviewed the offer and decided not to sell the acreage because its sale would severely limit Timothy’s expansion plans at Wyatt.
  10. What is the current value of RD Mize, and will the added $500K for deferred maintenance projects increase its value?  Answer:  A market summary (not an appraisal) in the first quarter of 2020 identified a market value of approximately $4 million. Completing the deferred maintenance projects is not likely to increase the real value of the property.
  11. How will Phase 1 be financed?  Answer:  Leadership does not plan to incur additional debt because building will not start until pledged funds are in the bank. This should prevent cash shortages, unlike when Wyatt was built.
  12. What about using portable classrooms available from Odessa School District?  Answer:  After consulting the City of Blue Springs and Fire Protection District, the Executive Board voted not to pursue the acquisition of the portable classrooms due to numerous codes and restrictions.
  13. What is the seating for RD Mize compared to the proposed 350 seating in Phase 3 Worship Center, and will it be enough?  Answer:  RD Mize sanctuary can seat 400-450 people. When Phase 3 is ready to build, leadership will revisit this issue and adjust accordingly.
  14. Can some of the proceeds from sale of RD Mize be used for building costs at Wyatt?  Answer:  Leadership is hopeful that LCEF (Lutheran Church Extension Fund) will allow Timothy to reserve part of the proceeds for use at Wyatt. Timothy has a positive working relationship with LCEF and is confident this arrangement is possible.
  15. Will the architectural master plan and drawings be available in time for the June 13 Special Voters’ Meeting? Answer:  No. Interviews for selecting an architect will not begin until the Voters approve the Phase 1 expansion plan.
