As We Gather For Worship This Weekend

THEME: The Advocate

Before He died, Jesus promised that after His death and resurrection, God would send “the Advocate” to His followers, a promise that was fulfilled when God poured out His Holy Spirit on the disciples on the day of Pentecost. This is the Holy Spirit’s big day in the Church, a day when we remember how He created the Church in the first place. But Jesus makes it clear that the Holy Spirit doesn’t just work with the Church as a whole. He also works within and through us. So who is our Advocate and what does He do?

What is a Super Cool Christian?

Hillcrest Apartment Blessing

This past Wednesday afternoon provided a special time for Pastor John to bless the Timothy-sponsored apartment at Hillcrest Transitional Housing in Lee’s Summit. Joining Pastor John (pictured below) were Pam Lund, Tom & Nancy Nowiszewski, Cotton Sivils (Hillcrest), Joe and Sandy Sauter, and Vanessa Hickman (Hillcrest).

Even though Timothy has sponsored the apartment for ten years, we wanted to have it blessed because it is totally remodeled with laminate flooring throughout and freshly painted walls. In addition, “new” furniture from the Hillcrest Thrift Store and a donated television add to the fresh start that future residents will enjoy as they work through the Hillcrest program. The flooring was made possible through donations contributed to Timothy’s Hillcrest fund.  Thanks to everyone for your support of this ministry!

Live Well Community Fair Is Almost Here

Excitement is mounting as we are just two weeks away from our 3rd Annual Live Well Community Fair on Sat., June 5, from 10am-2pm at Wyatt Campus.

In addition to providing information and fun activities, this event will offer opportunities to give back to the community as we collect food items for Community Services League, cleaning supplies for Hillcrest Transitional Housing, and cat & dog food for the KC Pet Project, who will bring along a canine friend plus information about pet adoption. Another canine visiting throughout the fair will be Jessy, the Comfort Dog.

So plan to spend time at the fair—and invite your friends and neighbors. It will be a great way to introduce them to Timothy and our ministries, which will also be featured in the lobby that day.

Introducing Timothy’s New Logo

As part of the Next Generation process, Timothy’s leaders developed a new mission statement for our church, transitioning from Touching Lives for Christ to Transforming Lives Through Christ. This new mission statement will be the focus of a sermon series in June, with June 13 unpacking “Transforming,” June 20 unpacking “Lives,” and June 27 unpacking “Through Christ.”

In the meantime, Pastors John and Rod have brainstormed ideas for a new logo to accompany the new mission statement. They reached out to Chris Roth, a college friend of Pastor John’s, who helps many churches in Minnesota with graphic design work.

After learning about Timothy, Chris created a great design, explaining its relevance this way: “Instead of thinking outside the box, this design thinks ‘outside the circle,’ and the negative space cross shape extends slightly beyond the circle. The arrow point at the end of the right side of the cross suggests movement and transformation, and the angle of the cross reinforces this idea, as does the sequence of colors in the circle.”

Next Generation Town Hall

Please plan to attend the Next Generation Town Hall meeting this Sunday, May 23, at Wyatt Auditoriumimmediately following the 10am worship service. The meeting will also be livestreamed.

The PowerPoint presentation will explain plans for moving forward with ministry growth, with the opportunity for discussion after the presentation.  A few hard copies of the presentation will be available to take home after the meeting, and it will also be posted to Timothy’s website on Monday.

Stream of Living Water: A Poem

 By Dolores Hecht
The sleeping earth awakes to spring
And life to flowers and trees God brings,
The plants burst forth with the sun and rain,
Splashing color galore in field and plain.
The Christian dies and is laid to rest
Till God call him forth from the tomb,
His body now glorified ascends with the Lord
Who has prepared in His mansion a room.
More beautiful is he who awakes in Jesus
Than all the flowers of springs,
For he wears Christ’s robe of righteousness,
The adornment of the King of Kings.
