As We Gather For Worship This Weekend

THEME:  A Christmas Surprise
We are so used to the Christmas story that we overlook the shock and surprise that comes with a virgin birth. Listen to how confused Mary is: she’s willing to be part of the story, but she doesn’t understand how any of this will happen. The surprise in Mary’s story is palpable. But the angel reminds Mary that God’s Word doesn’t fail. And it doesn’t fail for us either, as surprising as that might seem.

Journey to the Manger gifts and gift cards, delivered earlier this week, were very much appreciated by Our Redeemer Lutheran in KCK, Community Services League in BS, and Hillcrest Transitional Housing in LS.

Care Minister Nancy Nowiszewski reports that 50 gift cards were delivered to CSL.  Hillcrest received 50 gifts for residents and an additional 20 items for the Hillcrest office as well as a 32” flat-screen television and stand donated by a Timothy member. Two large bags of winter wear and 50 gift cards were delivered to Our Redeemer. What an overwhelming outpouring of love and support for so many people in need!

Nancy received the following email message from Melodie Chrisman at CSL: “Please let your congregation know we so appreciate all that they collected. We are doing three days here of Christmas distribution. We have over 250 families. Merry Christmas!”

Reminder:  The “Drive-By-and-Drop-Off” grocery collection for Hillcrest is tomorrow, Dec. 19, 10am-noon, at both campuses. Thanks to all who participate as well as all those who brought goods to the grocery carts at each campus during the past four weeks! We look forward to collecting goods starting Sunday through end of January for Community Services League.

LWML Thanks Timothy

Timothy’s LWML thanks the congregation for its support of the Annual Nut & Candy Sale! It was another successful year, even with necessary adjustments due to COVID-19. LWML will donate 10% of net proceeds to mites for missions and 90% to PALS Wives Resource Project for LCMS Pastoral Education. PALS (Post-Seminary Applied Learning and Support) will purchase resources for PALS wives, facilitators, and participants. A recent thank-you note from LCMS about this donation stated, “We are excited to receive this donation—what a blessing to our new pastors’ wives!”
2020 First Fruits contributions total $211,439.26, as of Dec. 13th.  Thank you, Timothy, for your above and beyond contributions to Timothy’s ministries. A letter outlining goals for 2021 First Fruits will be mailed today. God’s blessings to you as you review your opportunities to participate in the new year!

Children’s Christmas Program This Sunday, Dec. 20, at 10am service at Wyatt. Final practice will be tomorrow, Dec. 19, from 9-11am. Hand bell choir will practice from 11am-1pm.

Drive-Thru Holy Communion will be offered on Wed., Dec. 23, 6:30-7pm, RD Mize. Please drive to north entrance (sanctuary doors), park at the curb, and enter lobby to receive the sacrament.

In-Person Christmas Worship Questionnaire Responses have dropped off since earlier this week. If you still plan to complete that questionnaire, please do so soon. Your input is appreciated!

WORSHIP NOTES:

  1. In-person Holy Communion this Sunday, Dec. 20, will only occur at the 9am service at RD Mize. The FaithRoots promo video will only be shown at the 9am service as well.
  2. The 10am service at Wyatt will be the Children’s Christmas Program. There will be no in-person Holy Communion at Wyatt or Drive-Thru Holy Communion after the service.
  3. The next Drive-Thru Holy Communion will be Wed., Dec. 23, 6:30-7pm, at RD Mize (sanctuary doors entrance).
  4. The FaithRoots promo video will not be shown at the 10am service at Wyatt this Sunday, but it can be accessed online as always.
