As We Gather For Worship

So we have celebrated Easter. We have reminded ourselves once again of Jesus’ death and resurrection. So Now What? What is the next thing that we, as God’s people, do? We follow God’s example and love as Jesus did. We live out that love that we saw on the cross in the lives of those around us.

Successful Food Distribution at Welcome Inn

Timothy’s willingness to reach out to Welcome Inn residents with non-perishable food and supplies was very much appreciated this Wednesday. Many thanks to Esther Maxwell, Chris Hruska, Joe Sauter, Steve & Janel Schild, Miriam Lindemann, Sandy Galvin, David Escobar and Nancy Nowiszewski who volunteered to help with purchasing, setting up, and assisting the residents.

This week, Timothy’s volunteers served 42 family units, and the next opportunity will be Wednesday, May 6, 11am-1pm. Please contact Nancy Nowiszewski ( if you can help that day. Donations of non-perishables and household supplies (especially toilet paper, canned green beans, peanut butter, club crackers and mac & cheese) can be dropped off in the black receptacle outside the RD Mize office doors from 8:30am-4:30pm on April 27-30.

Volunteers heard many “thank-you’s” and, “You don’t know how much this means to me!” To God be the glory as we continue to touch lives for Christ in the community.

Hillcrest Food Pantry “Drive-Up” Collection

Timothy members Dan Sbisa and Joe Sauter put their heads together this week to plan a way to collect food for the Lee’s Summit Hillcrest apartments. This is how we can all participate:

A “drive-up food drive” opportunity will be held on Saturday, May 2, 10am-noon, at both RD Mize and Wyatt Road. To minimize interactions at Hillcrest in Lee’s Summit, a pickup truck at each Timothy campus will be ready to accept your donations next Saturday.

The following items are needed:
Cream soups (chicken, celery, mushroom)
Spaghetti sauce
Canned dinners (Ravioli, Spaghetti O’s)
Canned beans
Boxed dinners
Cans of coffee
Snacks for kids

Men’s Online Bible Study via ZOOM
BIBLE STUDY: Thursday, April 30th, 7-8pm

Are you interested in joining a group of Christian men for a LIVE online Bible Study via ZOOM?

Together we will discuss John 11 and view portions of a video Bible Study by Man in the Mirror titled, “When It Seems Like Jesus Shows Up Too Late.” This series speaks directly to men who are Walking With God In A Pandemic.

TO JOIN THE STUDY, send Pastor Rod an email requesting the login information. For online safety and security this is a private meeting (yet open to all – you just need the link so we can connect).

If you are new to Zoom, let Pastor Rod know and he will email you information on joining a practice session so you can work through your first experience. All you need is a smart phone or computer with sound and video to fully participate.

BIBLE STUDY: Thursday, April 30th, 7-8PM

Don’t forget, send me an email for an official invite or to ask any questions you may have.

Timothy Lutheran School Tradition Continues

As TLS has entered its sixth week of long distance learning, we have begun to foster our sense of community with eSpirit Week. If you have followed our Facebook page, you have seen pictures being shared of Timothy wear, fun socks and hats, sports gear, and families having fun together. To continue our sense of community and our traditions, next week we are rolling out our 4th quarter mission project.

TLS families can send in $10 (the approximate cost of one package of diapers) along with the name of another TLS family (or TLS supporter). That second person/family will then be the lucky recipient of a stunning flock of bright pink, plastic, flamingo yard decorations for 24 hours. Every night, beginning April 27 through May 10, the flamingos will find a new “home” throughout Eastern Jackson County. Don’t want to be “Flamingoed”? Just send in $20, and you will be added to the “No Flamingo” list.

At the end of these two weeks, we will purchase as many diapers as our flamingos earned and deliver them to Impact Ministries, thus continuing our tradition of mission work AND education. Teaching our children that they are part of not just their TLS community, but part of their local, physical community and part of God’s community of Christians. A community that is taught to not just believe in “Love thy neighbor” but to act on it.

We’ve Got Spirit. Yes, We Do! We’ve Got Spirit. How ‘Bout You?!?!

As a school leader, I collaborate daily with teachers and students to ensure all needs are met. But what happens when students and teachers can’t be in our school building? What happens when distance learning becomes the norm, where teachers and students communicate through a computer? Who can pick up where we leave off? It’s the PARENTS! Our amazing phenomenal PARENTS. They are this week’s Timothy Lutheran School Heroes!

It would be easy to assume that the Covid-19 Pandemic has removed all the fun and joy out of our school. That the Shelter in Place order would make us feel separated, alone and removed. But that is not the case. We may not be meeting in the school building, but we are still a school. We are still a family. And we are still a Force filled with the Spirit. Our school spirit is stronger than ever! This was Spirit Week!

Monday April 20: Rams Gear Day
Tuesday April 21: Silly Socks Day
Wednesday April 22: Hat Day
Thursday April 23: Sports Day
Friday April 24: Family Fun Day

Romans 15:13 says, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” We should never underestimate the power of the Holy Spirit and the hope that is instilled within us. We at Timothy Lutheran School remain Hopeful. We are Hopeful that through these trying times we will come out stronger, smarter, better and more connected. We at Timothy Lutheran School are filled with the Spirit!

Next Generation Congregational Study Update

With the continuation of the stay-at-home order and little information to date about resuming normal worship services, Timothy’s leadership, including the Next Generation Steering Committee, has set the final deadline for submitting Next Generation congregational surveys (either printed or electronic) as Sunday, May 3 at 5pm.

The online survey may be accessed on Timothy’s website ( Printed copies may be picked up and returned at Information Centers at each campus during business hours (Wyatt 8am-4pm; RD Mize 8:30am-4:30pm). Printed copies may also be mailed to members if they are unable to pick up one at one of the campuses. Please contact Diane Mayfield at 816.229.6849 if you wish to have a copy mailed to you.

Sincere thanks to all who have completed the survey! If it is still on your “to-do list,” please complete this task soon! Thank you!

Mrs. Mundt Accepts Call

The following letter from Angie Mundt was read at the conclusion of last Sunday’s online worship service. It is printed here in case you still need to view the service or if you would like to review it in print.

April 16, 2020
Timothy Lutheran Ministries,

It is with mixed emotions I accept the Call to serve as principal at Calvary Lutheran School in Kansas City. It has been my desire to serve in a school leadership position and I am grateful for the opportunity. My family feels confidently that God is leading us in this new direction. Though we are excited about the opportunities ahead, it is difficult to imagine leaving Timothy. Timothy has been our church home for nearly twenty years. Fifteen of those years I have been part of Timothy’s ministry staff, serving in the church and school. It has been a great privilege to work alongside dedicated and talented servant-leaders. My family loves this congregation. The school has supported and shaped my children. Timothy has truly been a church home, filled with a wonderful family of believers. We are grateful for the love, support, and many memories. I ask that you keep my family in your prayers as we transition to a new ministry. I will keep Timothy in my prayers as you continue to touch lives for Christ.

In His Service,
Angie Mundt
