Timothy’s Leadership Meeting Remotely

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to alter normal routines, Timothy’s leadership now meets remotely to communicate about the spiritual care and business of the congregation. Both the Board of Elected Elders and the Executive Board met this week via Zoom conferences to address needs and implement ways to continue to Touch Lives for Christ among our members and beyond. Each day and week are full of new information to absorb and understand. Please continue to lift Timothy’s staff, ministries and members up in prayer as we all navigate these changes.

The Executive Board is taking the current crisis with COVID-19 very seriously, constantly evaluating ways to keep Timothy stable financially. Even through the uncertainty, the board is committed to honoring tithes to the Community Services League, Hillcrest Transitional Housing, the Missouri District, LUMA, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Rachel House, Mother’s Refuge, and Heit’s Point. The goal is to focus on organizations that impact our immediate community and church affiliations that need our support now more than ever. The board will continue to monitor Timothy’s financial situation and greatly appreciates everyone’s continue support. The board is also investigating and applying for various types of financial assistance through both the Missouri District and federal government. As any of these efforts are finalized, the board will communicate to the congregation as soon as possible.

The Board of Elected Elders plans to check on all members soon through phone calls by all of Timothy’s elders. We look forward to learning how the church can help our members, their families, their friends or neighbors.

A New Face in the Office

Many thanks to Caryn Barbee for over four years of service in Timothy’s Member Services. It is often said that an organization is really “run” by those who answer the phones, meet the public, schedule meetings, complete necessary paperwork of all kinds, and know every detail that makes it “click.” This certainly describes Caryn, and Timothy wishes her the best in all future endeavors.

Timothy is pleased to welcome Sandy Gregory as the new Member Services support staff, effective Monday, April 6. Sandy is a KC-area native, life-long Lutheran, and a member of Timothy for over 30 years. Over the years she has served Timothy as an assistant teacher when TLS was housed in the Hansel Lowe building at 16th & Vesper, substitute teacher in ECC, and Midweek School (now known as Cross Walk) & VBS helper. She was trained as a Stephen Minister approximately 10 years ago. She fondly remembers participating in Bible studies and serving in a drama capacity during Lenten services under Pastor Ted’s tutelage.

Starting Monday, April 6, the RD Mize office will be open from 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday through Friday. While we regret you may not be able to greet and welcome her in person for a while, we hope you will lend assistance in your familiar ministry areas when you call or email. Sandy’s email address will be sandyg@timothylutheran.com. Thank you, and Welcome Aboard, Sandy! May God bless your service at Timothy!

Timothy Lutheran School’s HERO

In an organization of many moving parts, there is usually a key person who wears multiple hats and supports everyone. For Timothy Lutheran School, that person is Kristen Anderson, the TLS Hero of the Week.

It would not be unusual for someone to become overwhelmed with the many duties that Ms. Anderson, the TLS Administrative Assistant, handles on a regular basis. She does everything with endless grace. Her passion to serve God, our church, and our school is fierce. Given that my office is adjacent to Ms. Anderson’s front desk, I often see and hear her greeting people, helping students, answering phones, completing daily paperwork, and maintaining the needs of many. She is consistently kind and helpful. As the ultimate ambassador of Timothy Lutheran School, she truly finds joy in helping others and exemplifies our school mission, “Joy Fully Lutheran,” daily.

Ms. Anderson is highly respected and appreciated by the Timothy Lutheran Staff. “Kristen is the glue that holds our ministry together. She has a huge heart, sharing love and grace with Timothy’s staff, students, and families. She knows and loves all the students, providing comfort when students are injured or not feeling well. Her easy smiles and laughter add joy to our days. Kristen has been challenged with a heavy and changing workload but embraces the challenges with a servant heart.” “Kristen is a very helpful and knowledgeable person and loves to be of service to others. She has a strong faith, loves the Lord, and is a witness to those around her.” “Kristen has been flexible in assisting wherever we . . . need help.” “She cares immensely about our school, its families, staff and children. . . . Her listening ear and helpful suggestions make her a wonderful friend.”

Psalm 100:1-3 says, Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture. Ms. Anderson approaches each day with joy and shares that joy with all. Even as we face new changes and challenges of these unusual times, she carries on with a joyful heart and “can do” attitude that motivates those around her.

Should you visit our school, be sure to greet Ms. Anderson and say, “thank you.” She is a vital member of our team. Thank you, Ms. Anderson. You truly are a Timothy Lutheran School Hero!

In His Service,
Ken Holland
Principal—Timothy Lutheran School
