From fearful to fearless. That's quite a leap, isn't it? The disciples were no strangers to doubt and panic. Yet, something radical happened to transform them into bold witnesses. What was it that ignited such a dramatic change? Was it courage, conviction, or something else entirely? Let's explore this together. Join us as we delve into the lives of these ordinary men who became extraordinary disciples. Let's uncover the secret to overcoming fear and embracing a life of faith and boldness. Are you ready to step out of your comfort zone and into the extraordinary?
On Mission with Jesus
The Book of Acts details the early church's dynamic growth, showcasing ordinary people doing extraordinary things through the Holy Spirit. Over 13 weeks, we'll see the birth of a movement that reshaped the world.
Acts offers more than history; it reflects the Spirit's ongoing work within the church. We'll examine how early believers faced challenges, built community, and boldly shared the gospel—experiences relevant to us today.
With a dedicated reading plan, we’ll explore the stories of Peter, Paul, and others, learning how the Holy Spirit empowered them and how He can empower us. We’ll find practical ways to apply these lessons to our lives and become effective witnesses for Christ.
Follow along with our sermon series and weekly Prepare for Worship emails for reading assignments. Let’s be inspired by the early church's courage and faith and ignite a fresh wave of God’s Kingdom.
This week’s reading: Chapters 3-4.

Adopt A Mower: Help Us Replace Our Lawn Mower: A Heartfelt Thank You!
We have some fantastic news to share! Thanks to your incredible generosity, we’ve raised $8,640 for our lawn mower fund. We are truly grateful for your support.
Initially, we urgently needed to replace our current mower. While we had planned to include the cost of a second mower in next year’s budget, given the extensive land we maintain, your generous contributions have enabled us to expedite both the immediate replacement and the purchase of a second mower.
With these donations, we are well-positioned to buy one new mower. If we can raise an additional $2,960, we’ll be able to secure the second mower as well. This would greatly enhance our ability to maintain our grounds beautifully and keep them welcoming.
Thank you once again for your unwavering support. Your contributions are making a real difference in keeping Timothy Lutheran Ministries looking its best!

On Mission with Jesus: A Journey Through the Book of Acts
The Book of Acts is a thrilling chronicle of the early church's explosive growth. It's a story of ordinary people empowered by the Holy Spirit to do extraordinary things. As we embark on this 13-week journey through Acts, we'll witness the birth of a movement that would change the world.
But Acts isn't just history; it's a picture of how the Spirit has worked within the church then and now. We'll see how the early believers faced challenges, built community, and shared the gospel with boldness. These same challenges and opportunities exist for us today.
By following a dedicated reading plan, we'll delve deeper into the inspiring narratives of Peter, Paul, and countless others. We'll explore how the Holy Spirit equipped them and how He can empower us. As we journey together, we'll discover practical ways to apply these ancient truths to our lives and become more effective witnesses in transforming lives through Christ.
To enhance your experience, we encourage you to read through the Book of Acts alongside our sermon series. Each week, we'll provide specific reading assignments in our weekly Prepare for Worship email to guide your study.
Let's be inspired by the courage and faith of these pioneers. Together, we can ignite a fresh wave of God's Kingdom on earth. Are you ready to step into your role in this epic story? The series begins on Sunday, September 1.

Per Ken Holland, "Taking a moment to reflect on how blessed we are to have such a supportive community embracing Timothy Lutheran School is an enjoyable pause in my day. While I have collectively raised up our teaching staff, I would like to introduce you to the first teacher I hired at Timothy Lutheran School: Kelly Butz. Kelly is one of our Early Childhood Preschool Teachers."
Kelly is a beloved colleague and teacher. Her colleagues describe her as, “…a kind, giving and patient teacher.” “She automatically makes each child feel like he or she is the most important person in the room.” “She truly is a good listener.”
Thank you, Kelly Butz, for being the colleague, educator, and friend that you are. Timothy Lutheran School is proud to call you one of our own!
Call Committee Update
Timothy’s Call Committee met on Aug. 27. The final draft of the new Senior Pastor position description was approved and referred to the Executive Board for its review and to the Board of Executive Elders for its approval. Prior to the meeting, Call Committee members individually ranked the 15 candidates and submitted their rankings for a composite score of all rankings. From that process, the Committee selected its top six candidates to interview soon, based on solidarity and clear choice to meet Timothy’s needs. Virtual interviews are scheduled to start the week of Sept. 9, depending upon candidates’ availability. The next Call Committee meeting will be Sept. 3 to summarize and organize interview questions to meet Timothy’s needs as derived from the recent congregational survey as well as the candidates’ experiences and qualifications.
Please continue to keep the Call Committee and call process in your prayers as we seek to find the man God has already chosen as Timothy’s next senior pastor. Thank you!
It is time to volunteer for Timothy Lutheran Ministries Steakburger Booth at the Blue Springs Fall Fun Fest! The event this year will be September 20th-22nd. It takes approximately 300 volunteers to make this outreach successful. There are opportunities to volunteer, starting on Thursday, September 19th through Sunday, September 22nd. Please click the link below to volunteer or sign up at the table on Sunday.
We are still needing volunteers for the following shifts: Set-up Thursday night, Clean-up Friday afternoon/evening, Friday & Saturday 4-7 pm and Friday & Saturday 7-10 pm. Thank you to the volunteers who have already sign up. We appreciate all your willingness to serve.
This past semester, I completed my first systematic theology class as part of my theological training, focusing on God's character and creation. I must admit that my previous understanding of God’s character often led to abstract and unhelpful thoughts. This class really opened my eyes to a deeper level of understanding. Next, I will be moving on to Systematic Theology 2, where I will delve deeper into the study of Christ and the Church. I am excited to continue this journey and am deeply grateful for your ongoing financial support.

LWML Society Meeting Success
LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Jessy and Thomas visited Timothy's LWML Society meeting last weekend. The trained Golden Retrievers, members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Concordia, serve as ambassadors for Christ with their calming nature and skills as they interact with humans in need. It was a joy to have these loving animals share their morning with the group and help us understand how their mannerisms and compassion are able to bring relief, some joy, and love to those who are hurting from disasters, crises, or illness/death of a loved one in our communities.

Jerusalem brought our walk with our Lord to an end in many ways. As Jesus was crucified, He died and was buried. But we know the Easter story and the powerful Resurrection that followed. And with that Resurrection, Jesus takes one more significant walk in the gospel of Luke. It's a walk where He reminds, recalls, and reteaches all that He's already given so that when the day draws near, and He ascends, we can be confident as we move forward into the mission He's given.

transfer all church property from storage containers and offsite storage in early Nov.; volunteer workdays to be scheduled
sell storage containers after first of the year
Thank you for supporting this project and keeping it in your prayers! To God Be the Glory!

We have arrived at a major destination. We have arrived at Jerusalem, where Jesus is arrested and brought before Pilate. It is here Jesus is asked one simple question, "Are You the King of the Jews?" And Jesus answers. But His answer has huge ramifications. His answer is what ultimately kills Him. Yet Jesus doesn't shy away because He knows the truth. The question is, do we?
Walk with Jesus!
Do you yearn for a deeper connection with God?
This sentiment of "I can't live without you!" often reflects our deepest longings. But there's only One we truly cannot live without: our Lord, Jesus Christ.
This spring, we dined with Jesus through Lent and Easter. Now, we continue our journey with a brand new sermon series: Walk with Jesus! We now delve into the Gospel of Luke, following Jesus' footsteps. We see Him teaching along the road, answering questions, and transforming moments into powerful lessons.
Just as the disciples walked with Jesus, we too can journey with Him. Through this series, we'll discover new truths, deepen our faith, and draw closer to God. If you desire more of Jesus, join us! Let's walk with Him each week and experience the transformative power of His presence.
Call Committee Update
At its meeting on Aug. 14, Timothy's Call Committee discussed the process to rank the 15 senior pastor candidates received from the MO District last week. The committee also finalized a proposed Senior Pastor position description to be reviewed by Timothy's Executive Board soon with final approval by the Board of Elected Elders. Before the next meeting on Aug. 27, the committee will send potential interview questions to Chair Tary Krahenbuhl and individually rank the 15 candidates.
Please continue to keep this divine call process and the Call Committee in your prayers as we discern God's Will for Timothy's next Senior Pastor. Thank you!

Blair, a resident of Timothy’s Hillcrest, recently celebrated a joyful occasion with her daughters—her 1-year-old’s birthday and her 4-year-old daughter. Surrounded by friends and family, the event was a heartfelt gathering made possible through the support of Timothy’s members. The celebration was a testament to the strong, supportive network at Hillcrest, which played a pivotal role in making the day special. Blair, who is set to graduate at the end of this month, was grateful for the community's involvement in the festivities.

We’re sure you’ve noticed, but Timothy is moving dirt for the new storage building! While rains this week have resulted in a week behind schedule, the building pad and base materials are in place and ready for footings. Our contractor believes this time can be made up with the following schedule adjustments:
concrete pours from Aug. 22-Sept. 16
building erection during week of Oct. 7th
plant trees this fall by Timothy’s Property Board and senior high youth attending 2025 NYG
transfer all church property from storage containers and offsite storage in early Nov.; volunteer workdays to be scheduled
sell storage containers after first of the year
Thank you for supporting this project and keeping it in your prayers! To God Be the Glory!
As of yesterday, the US flag and Christian flag are once again flying high at Timothy! Leadership thanks an anonymous donor for funding the repair of the flagpole and related parts so we can once again pledge our allegiance to both. To God Be the Glory!

The journey gets closer and closer now to Jerusalem. The anticipation builds among the crowds. There's also a buzz whether this is the time when Jesus will usher in the Kingdom of God. That sounded good to the people then and there, and, to be honest, it sounds good to us, the church, in the here and now. But Jesus wants us to come to a fuller understanding of this Kingdom and the fullness of where it can be found. Today we tune in.

If you haven't sensed it yet, Jesus brings it out in the opening of our text this week. Walking with Him isn't a nice walk in the park. As we have seen, heard, and experienced through a handful of challenges and struggles, Jesus now asks us to consider the cost of being a disciple. Because looming in the background is the suffering of the cross. Before we go any further, let's take inventory of what discipleship costs us and whether it's worth it.

Timothy Group Serves Our Community - On the GO!
Last Sunday, a dedicated group of eight individuals from Timothy made a significant impact at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Together, they provided a hot meal, offered warm companionship, and shared in the power of God's Word. Their selfless service was a testament to the spirit of community and Christian love. Through this outreach, they met physical needs and provided much-needed emotional and spiritual support to those in need. Consider how you can put together a small group to love our neighbors.

HVAC System Upgrade Brings New Comfort to Timothy
This week, Timothy received a significant blessing with the installation of seven new HVAC systems. This upgrade, completed during the week of July 22nd, marks a major improvement for the church and its school, promising enhanced comfort and better air quality across the campus. Timothy's new HVAC systems are not just a technical advancement but a testament to the church’s dedication to providing a conducive environment for spiritual and educational growth. These units were funded by donations and partly from the sale of the RD Mize campus. The upgrade promises to make a meaningful impact on the experience of everyone who visits or participates in activities at the church and school.
LUMA New Executive Director
Timothy has strongly supported the Lutheran Urban Mission Agency for many years. In addition to being one of Timothy's tithing organizations, LUMA will receive many household & food items collected at VBS; TLS often conducts food drives during the school year for LUMA. Timothy's LWML members are automatically members of the LUMA Auxiliary, regularly providing many opportunities for our church to support LUMA's outreach efforts through food drives and pleas for winter necessities, school supplies, and other youth needs & activities.
In May, Pastor Phil Cook accepted the position as LUMA's Executive Director after serving as LUMA Board Chair for the past several years. His servant heart for missions, both local and international, is strong as he has led many youth mission trips to Mexico's border as well as supported missionaries in foreign lands and assisted immigrants and refugees.
Pastor Phil is eager to guide LUMA's vision to bring the fullness of the Gospel to the diverse cultures, generations, and communities of Greater KC. The congregation is invited to Pastor Phil's Installation Service and Ice Cream Social THIS SUNDAY, August 4th, to welcome him in this new role. Please join us! Timothy prays God's blessings upon his ministry as he begins his service as the LUMA Executive Director.

Have you ever been hiking and found a nice snug place to crawl through? The question becomes whether you will really fit in and make it through. As we walk with Jesus today, He talks about a narrow spot, too, but this one matters for all eternity. Therefore, it is certainly worth considering. As we do so, Jesus reminds us of those who will make it through, and the truth He offers is not always easy to swallow.
Picnic for Worship Volunteers
Sunday morning worship is enhanced by so many volunteers every week! We praise God that willing hearts step up to volunteer in ministries like worship assistants, ushers, readers, altar guild, greeters, musicians/choir members, sound techs, Bible Class/FaithRoots/nursery teachers, donut ministry, and golf cart drivers.
The Board of Elected Elders wants to recognize and thank those dozens of volunteers by hosting a catered picnic for them on Saturday, Aug. 24, from 4-8 pm at Blue Springs Park Shelter #1. If you volunteer in any way on Sunday mornings, an email went out Wednesday, July 17th, including RSVP instructions to assist planners of this event. Please check Junk Mail or other files if it did not reach your inbox.
Call Committee Update
Timothy's Call Committee met on July 23, after individually spending the previous two weeks analyzing the congregational survey results in preparation for creating a new position description for Timothy's next Senior Pastor. Please see the details on the Call Committee website page. Click Here.
If you would like to see detailed results of the entire survey, please contact the church office at 816-228-5300.
The Call Committee created a first draft of the Senior Pastor position description, based upon the survey results, which will be further reviewed between now and the next meeting on Aug. 14, if not before. The MO District Office is also currently creating a list of candidates for Timothy's consideration, based upon the survey results and knowledge of Timothy's needs. An email went to the congregation on July 24th with the wrong information so please see the email on July 25th with corrected information. The information is also corrected on the website.
Please continue to keep this divine call process and Timothy's Call Committee in your prayers as we move forward to discern God's Will in sending the man he's already chosen to serve as Timothy's next Senior Pastor. Thank you!
Timothy Beautification Project
Have you noticed God’s gift shaping up in Timothy’s front yard? What began 15 years ago as a retention area for runoff from parking lots and surrounding fields is slowly turning into a wetland!
What really is a “wetland”? It’s a place where land is covered by water with its own ecosystem as a biological community of interacting organisms with their environment. It is different from other bodies of water by the kind of vegetation that adapts to its wet soil. Timothy’s wetland has already been identified as growing 34 species of desired natives! God’s hand is at work!
Some benefits of developing this area into a true wetland are creating a habitat for birds and animals, developing a curriculum for TLS students, beautifying the church grounds, and eventually creating a prayer walk around the wetland.
There is much to do to accomplish these goals. Stay tuned for further updates about this project and how you can contribute time, talents, and treasures so this wetland can become something people will enjoy for years to come.
2024 Hillcrest Gala
It’s time to mark your calendars to attend the 2024 Hillcrest Gala! This year it will be Saturday, August 24, from 5:30-9 pm at the Overland Park Convention Center. Timothy will reserve a table for 10, with the option of reserving more tables as needed. Tickets are $175 each ($100 of which is covered by Timothy’s Hillcrest fund). Contact Sandy Gregory (816.228.5300 Ext. 8042) to reserve your tickets and for additional information. Thank you!
Storage Building Progress
The Property Board met with contractors Musselman & Hall (General Contractor for the project) this week. They are planning to break ground on 07/31. Musselman & Hall will self-perform all concrete, storm sewer, and seeding. Knight Trenching & Excavation will perform all earthwork and building pad construction. Completion date TBD. Topline Steel Buildings will furnish and erect the Storage building. Musselman and Hall prefer to have the building erected after they are done, which is hoped to be done in the first week of October. Overhead Door has been contacted for garage doors; they will not order doors until they can measure the building openings. We will accelerate and negotiate these activities as much as possible. The Executive Board has been involved with all approvals during this process. Please stay tuned for more information to come.
