As We Gather For Worship This Weekend

THEME: “Snake on a Stick!”

CREATIVE TENSION: On their way to the Promised Land, the people of Israel started grumbling. They probably felt justified in doing so. Life had been so difficult. But that grumbling led them to a bad end. Thankfully, God in His mercy gave them relief in a very odd way: by having Moses put a bronze serpent on a pole. That “snake on a stick” was the cure for what ailed them. In the same way, God responds to our broken spirits in an unusual way: by putting His Son on the cross. It is Jesus’ death that gives us relief from our sins.

Join the gang as they begin the Easter journey. This week they see Jesus as a servant washing His disciples’ feet.

Worship Update

Starting next Sunday, March 21, the two middle sections of pews in the sanctuary at RD Mize will be free of tape, but the pews in the two side sections will continue to be taped with every other pew available for seating. The chairs in the Wyatt Auditorium can be spaced closer together. All worshippers are asked to continue being courteous and respectful of people’s comfort levels, and wearing masks is still required. Timothy’s leadership and staff are excited to welcome more people back to worship as we move forward into spring.

As Holy Week approaches and families look forward to more in-person worship, Timothy’s staff and leadership encourage members to complete a simple survey regarding anticipated attendance at Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday services. Please click on the following link: CLICK HERE Thank you!

Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services are at 4 & 5:30pm at RD Mize, with Maundy Thursday services celebrating Holy Communion. The Easter Sunday services at RD Mize are at 9 & 11am; the Easter Sunday service at Wyatt is at 10am.

Please remember that a Sabbatical Sunday will be observed this Sunday, March 14. No in-person worship services will occur for this weekend only. There will be a premiere video on both FaceBook and YouTube for a 10am worship service. In-person services will resume next Sunday, March 21.

Lenten Season Update

Wednesday Lenten Service continues next week at 5:30pm (also livestreamed on FaceBook and posted to YouTube) as we journey through the Book of Job. Next week’s homework asks us to read Job.23:1-17 and answer these questions: 1) Job 23:10 states, “When he has tested me, I will come forth as gold.” Why does God test His people? What is your current test? 2) What qualities does gold have that God wants for you? and 3) How does God redeem suffering and pain in your life?

The March 17 Lenten Non-Dinner Free-Will Offering will benefit Timothy’s Children’s Ministry, specifically its Vacation Bible School program for July 2021. Thank you for your generous support of all free-will offering opportunities!

Next Generation Update

The Special Voters’ Assembly Meeting scheduled for next Sunday, March 21, is postponed. During the first quarter of 2021, Timothy’s elected leaders developed a new vision statement, Transforming Lives Through Christ, to replace Touching Lives for Christ, as well as established mission areas on which to focus our time, attention, and energy for the next 3-5 years (CLICK HERE)

One outgrowth of the new priorities is the creation of a Children & Youth Minister position. Timothy recently extended a divine call to Pastor Ryan Hochgrebe for that position, and we eagerly await his decision regarding that call. We ask that you continue to lift him in prayer as he deliberates.
As the leadership considered the upcoming Special Voters’ Assembly Meeting, it became clear that more work is needed regarding plans to present to the congregation about moving forward in this process, including conceptual architectural drawings to help us clarify what additional facilities and their costs are needed at Wyatt.

Since we do not yet have that information, the Special Voters’ Assembly Meeting is postponed until a later date. Once accurate information is ready to share, the meeting will be rescheduled so that we, as a congregational family, may discuss what Timothy’s next steps can be.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support as we work to transform lives through Christ!

Timothy’s Tithes Appreciated

Timothy’s commitment to tithing 10% of its general contributions is truly appreciated by the many receiving ministries, especially during the pandemic. Over the past few weeks, Timothy has received letters of appreciation from such organizations as Rachel House, Mother’s Refuge, Lutheran Bible Translators, Mission Central (Barb Rebentisch’s missionary work in Taiwan), LAMP (Lutheran Association or Missionaries & Pilots), Poblo International Ministries (sharing the love of Jesus with Muslims and other immigrants & refugees in the US), Hillcrest Transitional Housing, and Lutherans for Life. Each letter always includes a hand-written thank-you for the blessing impacted by Timothy’s support. Your general contributions are far-reaching with the love of Jesus! Thank you!

Speaking of One of Timothy’s Tithe Beneficiaries . . .

On April 11 and 18, worshippers will have the opportunity to extend Timothy’s support of Rachel House, a pregnancy resource center, by offering monetary donations for purchasing $5 Quik Trip gift cards. The Rachel House staff offers the gift cards to each person who comes to the center (many need gas money) as well as offer baby supplies to moms who attend the 20-week education program.

Stop by the table in the lobby to learn more about this pregnancy resource center and to offer your monetary support! Contact Sandy Galvin ( if you have questions. Thanks!

Youth Ministry Update

Attention all 6th-12th graders:  Mark your calendars to join in the fun at a very special Paint Party on March 26, 5-8pm, in the Family Life Center at RD Mize! The first hour will be devoted to painting birdhouses for Heit’s Point, and the next two hours will find students panting canvas pictures depicting the cross with Kreeayt Art (be sure to wear old clothes and shoes). There will be time for pizza from 5-6pm (only).

Cost is $7.50 per painter, payable on the Timothy Student Page at You must sign up by March 24 to ensure that adequate supplies and social distancing are available.

After the paintings are displayed at church during Holy Week, students may take them home after services on Easter Sunday. Thank you, youth, for sharing your talents with the congregation!

Timothy Chosen as Girls on the Run Host

Girls on the Run, a national organization serving over 200,000 girls annually, is a physical activity-based, positive youth development program designed to enhance girls’ social, emotional, and physical skills and behaviors to successfully navigate life experiences. Curriculum places an emphasis on developing competence, confidence, connection, character, caring, and contribution in young girls through lessons that incorporate running and other physical activities.

What does all this mean for Timothy? Timothy’s youth leaders were approached by the Girls on the Run organization to be a host site for Blue Springs in which girls in grades 6-8 gather at Timothy to learn, develop skills, and build friendships through physical activity. This opportunity is open to all Timothy girls as well as their friends in the community.

This two-month program will run from April 5 through Memorial Day Weekend with practices on Tuesdays (4:15-5:30pm) and Sundays (3:30-4:45pm), starting in Room 405 at RD Mize and then going outside for “activity-based learning” (jogging!) on the sidewalks/streets close to RD Mize Campus. Girls stay in groups accompanied by a coach/additional adult. At the conclusion of the two months, a 5K run is planned. Cost is $165 per girl, but scholarships are readily available for those needing financial assistance.

Timothy’s volunteer coaches are Julie Storck, Sandy Gregory, and Sarah Hinkle. Coaching opportunities are available for all girls/women ages 16 & up. Please contact Sarah Hinkle ( to sign up as a coach for grades 3-5 (currently not offered, but available with coaches) or grades 6-8 (currently offered). We look forward to achieving the second benchmark of an additional goal of $105,000.00 designated for Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, and additional payments to Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) to retire debt. To God Be the Glory!
